Hey guys it's good to meet you all and I hope that my journal entries give you some good insight into the upcoming season. My name is Bubba Crosby and I am a player for the Los Angeles Dodger organization. I was drafted by the Dodgers in the first round of the 1998 draft. The last year and a half I've been playing in the California league. I actually just finished playing my first full season for the San Bernardino Stampedes. As for the upcoming 2000 season I don't really know just yet where they're going to send me. The Texas League is where our AA organization is. I hope that's the team they'll be looking to send me to play for this season.
As for now I've been finishing up with school and working out. I was drafted out of Rice University after my junior year with around 36 hours to go. So, last off-season and this off-season I've been taking classes at a college down the road to help me get closer to graduating. As of last year and this year I been able to take 15 hours so now I only have 21 hours left. I knew if I stayed out of school for too long it would be hard to go back. It has already been hard enough to hit the books and study for tests and I haven't been out for that long. However, I also know that it has always been really important to me no matter how much I would succeed in baseball to get my college degree.
Along with school I've been working really hard on trying to get stronger and keep my speed up. I noticed last year being my first full season, that the last third of the season I was getting real tired. So, this year I'm trying to put on some weight so that I don't get burnt out as fast. I spend about four to five times a week lifting weights and working on speed and agility skills. I've only been hitting two to three times a week lately because of school, but now that's school is almost over I'll start hitting more. I look forward to leaving for Spring Training on the 8th of March. I feel that I'm just about where I want to be physically and mentally. I feel really devoted to working as hard as I can both during the season and the off-season knowing, that there are a lot of guys out there that only dream about having the opportunity that I've been given. A little over three weeks and we're off… I'll keep you all posted and until next time take care.
