Beach Life.. Here I come

By Bubba Crosby
Mar 21, 2000

It's my second spring training in my professional career and unfortunately it hasn't started out the way that I thought it would. When I got to Spring Training aside from my unexpected sleeping situation, I was put on the disabled list. About a week and a half before I headed out here, I hurt my shoulder while I was throwing. I wasn't sure exactly what I had done to it, but when I went to see the doctor he told me I had built up some tendonitis and needed to rest it for about a week. It would get pretty painful at times and I spent a lot of time for the next week with ice pacs. When I got up to Spring Training after I had my physical they told me that they wanted me to start out on the DL so that the tendonitis would calm down. That was a little disappointing but understandable considering that I didn't want to take the chance of hurting it worse either. So, in the meantime I have now come off of the DL and was assigned to play with the Vero Beach, FL team. I've really been enjoying playing with my teammates on the Vero team and I've also been having fun playing in the outfield. I feel good about my performance and I've been making good contact with the ball even when I don't get a hit. They started me in the DH and have up till now only played a few full games. My arm was pretty worn out after my first full game back, but has now begun to show some strength.

The whether has been a little warm, but good and even though I didn't get first or second pick on the beds I have been sleeping great too. I think that the only thing that I am missing here is a Playstation. There isn't much free time except for a few hours at night, but it would keep me entertained.

There is only a little more than a week left in Spring Training and I just hope that I can keep playing well and that my shoulder continues to get better for the upcoming season. We break from spring training on the 3rd and then I have a couple of days of short practice before we start the official season. I now have to start looking for a place to live during the season which I think I already have some pretty good options. Typically looking for a place to live for the season can be pretty hard, but both last year and this year too, I'm gonna end up with good friends and teammates. Not only that but I'm right next to the beach this year which is a nice change of scenery from both my hometown of Houston and from last season in San Bernardino. I'll let you all know if anything exciting comes up in the remainder of training and check back for the start of the season, take care.
